Tony Teal, a native of East Nashville, Tennessee, creates portrait and cityscape oil paintings based on photographs taken in his historic East Nashville neighborhood. Using the photographs as reference, Teal daubs successive layers of paint to make realistic images of people from contrasting walks of life and their created sense of personal place. Teal says, “These paintings are my attempt to make paintings of people from varying ethnicities, socio-economic situations, gender identifications and sexual orientations who live within the same neighborhood despite their differences.”
